10 Must-do Things this Summer Vacation in Kenya

All India, 16th May 2016:The stunning destination of Kenya is well-known for safari holidays, but besides the thrilling safari experience, there are lot of other activities on offer to keep everyone entertained. Be it river rafting the Tana River, dhow sailing, or experiencing Nairobi’s vibrant nightlife—there’s lot to explore in this world of wonders!

What better way to celebrate summer than by heading to one of Kenya’s beautiful beaches. The island of Lamu with its white sandy beaches is perfect for long beach strolls, dhow sailing and experiencing Kenya’s unique coastal culture.

1. Walking Safari with a Maasai Warrior
   A privately escorted walking safari with a Maasai warrior is one of the most exciting activities in Kenya. Walking safaris in Africa are completely different to game drives; being on foot brings about a totally new way of understanding the surroundings. Walking Safaris were the original safari and remain the purest form. There are few experiences as exhilarating as a close encounter with an elephant, lion or buffalo.
2. Visit an Elephant Orphanage
   Thousands of elephants are killed every year for their ivory, mainly driven by demand from Asia. The David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust in Nairobi rescues and rehabilitates orphaned elephants and rhinos with the aim of returning them to the wild. Visitors to the orphanage come face to face with the infant survivors. The babies play around in their daily mud bath between 11 a.m. and noon.
3. Kitesurfing in Watamu
   Enjoy the thrilling experience of kitesurfing in Watamu. Kite Waa-tamu, a kitesurfing school on the north coast of Kenya, offers kitesurfing lessons and kite hire.  The students are kitted out from head to toe in Liquid Force harnesses, life vests and helmets, ensuring the highest level of safety standards. Lessons are taught from a number of different locations along the beach depending on where the best conditions are at the time.
4. River Raft the Tana River
   Whitewater rafting and kayaking on the Tana River in Kenya are becoming popular activities in the country. Not only are there adventurous river rapids, but also an opportunity to view Kenya’s nature from the river. The ecosystem and bird viewing while rafting through the valley are spectacular
5. Catch a  Bird’s Eye View of Maasai Mara in a Hot Air Balloon
   With over 2 million wildebeest and hundreds of zebras roaming the region, a balloon safari here is simply magical. Maasai Mara Balloon safari is known as one of the best safari experiences in the world and watching the annual migration in it is simply great. Hot air balloon provides an aerial view of what is considered as the “greatest game show on Earth”.
6. Experience Nairobi’s Vibrant Nightlife
   Nairobi comes alive at night, and with a fast paced nightlife, it is hard to keep up with the various nightclubs around. There are also a few local nightclubs in Nairobi and Mombasa that stay open until dawn. Every night in Kenya is a different and lively night. Casinos have also sprouted around the city increasing the nightlife attractions.
7. Swim with Dolphins
   The safe warm waters of the Kenya’s coast provide the travellers with this unique opportunity. Swimming with dolphins has been recognized as one of life’s special moments and even non-swimmers can derive benefit and pleasure from this natural and uplifting experience.
   If the tourists prefer to stay dry they can sail in a dinghy and view the rest through a specially designed viewing scope.
8. Sail the Traditional Dhow
   Dolphines, turtles and whale sharks can be seen along with many colourful, exotic fish. A day spent at sea on a Dhow is a wonderful experience and a fantastic way to explore the region. The calm waters are perfect for sailing and one can soak in the serenity of the place.  Hiring a dhow for a leisurely cruise around the archipelago is a must-do.
9. Boat Safari at Naivasha
   Lake Naivasha is a beautiful freshwater lake, the second largest in the area after Lake Baringo. Lake Naivasha is an ideal place for boating, with wide open waters, fantastic surrounding scenery and plenty of channels to explore. Boats can be hired with driver/guides from many of Naivasha’s lakeside lodges and camps. For keen sailors, there is a sailing club in Naivasha.
10. Feed the Wild Giraffe
    Getting up close and personal with the wild giraffes at The Giraffe Centre, Nairobi is a thrilling experience. From a raised wooden platform you can observe, hand-feed and pat the Giraffes—It is an education in itself. You will see, close at hand, how they use their long prehensile tongues to remove leaves from prickly acacia branches.
