WTA Declares Kenya World’s Leading Safari Destination

All India, 18th December 2015: Kenya’s profile as a tourism destination has been boosted having been voted World’s Leading Safari Destination at the just concluded  2015 World Travel Awards (WTA)  held in, El Jadida, Morocco.

The awards dubbed the Oscars of the travel industry saw Kenya clinch the coveted position for the second time having also topped in 2013.

In Morocco, Kenya emerged the winner against country nominees of South Africa, Namibia, Botswana, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

While announcing the awards, WTA President Graham Cooke said Kenya’s win was an endorsement of the destination known as home to authentic safari.

“We congratulate Kenya on this deserving win and encourage the country to continue their commitment to preserving the unique heritage bestowed to the country for the sake of generations to come” He added.

Besides beach and safari attractions, Kenya excels in other tourism products including culture, archaeology, and palaeontology (cradle of mankind).

Furthermore, Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions (M.I.C.E) facilities avail tourism opportunities for business and leisure travellers.

Kenya’s commitment to enhancing wildlife conservation and upholding best practices in managing properties within conservation areas was rewarded through accolades in safari, eco- and green facilities.

KTB voted Africa’s best for the fifth time Kenya Tourism Board (KTB) was voted Africa’s leading tourist board for the fourth time in a row.

Masai Mara National Reserve and Diani Beach were named for the third and second time respectively as Africa’s leading National Park and Africa’s leading Beach destination.

In the Travel and leisure category, Port of Mombasa for the second time was voted Africa’s Leading Cruise Port while, Abercrombie & Kent was Africa’s best Luxury Tour Operator.

National carrier Kenya Airways became the Africa’s leading Airline – Business Class.

Twiga tours  world’s leading luxury safari company The most feted Kenyan travel company was Twiga Tours who emerged victors in both World and Africa categories; it clinched World’s Leading Luxury Safari Company & World’s Responsible Tourism Award. It was also voted Africa’s Leading Luxury Safari Company & Africa’s Responsible Tourism Award.

Under the hospitality category, winners across the product range included; Africa’s Leading Eco-Lodge clinched by Sanctuary Olonana while Africa’s Green Hotel went to Nairobi Serena.

Other winners included Africa’s leading Safari Lodge by Finch Hattons, Diani Reef Beach Resort & Spa was named Africa’s leading spa. Africa’s leading Tented Safari Camp went to Game watchers Safaris & Porini Camps.
